Car Hire Tips Transcription
Hi, My name’s Cherie Walker and I’m the Reservations Manager here at Indigo Car Hire. If you are one of our current customers, you will more than likely have spoken to me at some point. The purpose of the video today is just basically to give you some tips and guidance on what to do when renting a car hire as it can become a little confusing.
If any of you have any questions, visit our website, drop me an email and I’ll come back to you in person. Ok, these are the top tips, I feel you should all follow when renting a car.
Tip 1 – When you see a price, make sure the price is fully inclusive
What I mean by fully inclusive is that it includes VAT, Insurance, Mileage because there is nothing worse than turning up to the airport and having extra charges added on. So make sure you are fully aware of what you will be paying on arrival.
Tip 2 – Check what the excess is on the Insurance
The car will be insured but there will be an excess amount payable in the event that the vehicle is damaged. This can be from £500 to £1500 so it can be a lot of money so check what you are liable for in the event that you do damage the car.
Tip 3 – Any car hire will include insurance but check what the Excess Waiver is.
This is a small fee that you can pay per day to reduce your excess to a smaller amount or to zero. Usually this amount will not be told until you get to the rental desk so check beforehand so you are fully aware if you do want to reduce this.
Tip 4 – Make sure you know exactly how to collect the car.
There are many suppliers who offer airport car hire who are not actually based at the airport and you might have a telephone number to call on arrival or you might have to meet somebody in a certain area and if you don’t have this information, you can imagine it can be very difficult so check what you need to do when you get to the airport.
Tip 5 – Make sure you are aware of exactly what identification is required
Usually, it is a driving license (both parts if it is a UK license), a passport if you are travelling into the UK and a credit card (some companies accept debit cards) If you live in the UK, you may be asked to present proof of address which might include a utility bill or a bank statement so make sure you are fully aware of what ID is required.
Tip 6 – Make sure you are fully aware of what deposit is required in addition to the rental cost
You do need to make sure there are sufficient funds on the credit card or debit card for both the car hire and the deposit so make sure you have enough money in the account to cover both the cost and the deposit.
Tip 7 – When you collect the hire car you will be given something called a Rental Agreement
You need to sign this agreement which is a legally binding contract between you and the supplier. Make sure that the amount on the Rental Agreement is the amount that you have agreed to. I’m not saying that you will be tricked into anything but different terminology is used so make sure that you are signing for the amount that you agreed to at the start because once the Rental Agreement is signed, you have agreed to that price.
Tip 8 – When you are given the keys and are walking round the vehicle with a member of staff, make sure the damage sheet from the previous customer matches the damage that is actually on the vehicle
If you notice anything, even if it is a slight scratch or scuff, make sure you get the staff member to put this on the damage sheet and sign because if you don’t, when you return the vehicle, you will be the person responsible for the damage.
Tip 9 – Make sure you are fully aware of what the fuel policy is
Some suppliers you collect the car full and return it back full. Some suppliers are collect full and return empty and pay for a full tank so just be fully aware what condition you should return the fuel tank in.
Final Tip – When return the hire car take it to the correct place and if there is somebody available, make sure they actually come and look at the vehicle
They should also look at the paperwork and sign off to confirm that there is no additional damage. This just means that you can go home with peace of mind that you are not going to get any unexpected charges or your credit card or debit card.
